Teaching Grad Students How to Connect with Careers with Northern Illinois University
The unprecedented economic shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic makes it more important than ever for students to land a good job after graduation. As institutions navigate these times, understanding how to connect students with career pathways has become even more difficult. How can your institution use the latest jobs data to better inform students to take ownership of their career plans?
In this Burning Glass Technologies webinar, Northern Illinois University discusses how faculty and staff taught graduate students how to clarify and pursue their professional goals. The new Graduate Career and Professional Development Office developed new graduate courses focused on careers. Professors Gary Baker and Elizabeth Wilkins led the effort to enable graduate students to improve their hiring potential through more engaging, labor-aligned courses and guide them through their career pathways and create resources for these students to develop their individual plan.
This webinar walks through how Burning Glass Technologies and NIU used labor market data and professional development planning to address the career challenges graduate students face.
